THE HOUSE
Our very own pied-a-terre in the beautiful Languedoc in the South-West of France.
The house is situated in the medieval village of Lagrasse with its cobbled streets, quiet squares, 8th century abbey and very own river beach! Lagrasse is officially classed as "one of the most beautiful villages in France" and enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Nestled in the foothills of the Corbieres, the village is just 40 minutes from the Mediterranean.
We still do not know exactly how old the house is. Estimates from neighbours range from 13th, 14th, 15th or 16th century (take your pick!). Built from local stone.
We have named it "La Maison du Berger Constant" because it belonged to a local shepherd, Monsieur Constant, who would leave the village each year in spring to tend his flock in the Pyrenees and return to the house in time for winter.
OUTSIDE SPACE
Not a lot! However there is a wooden seat to sit on and play guitar to the passers-by! (We have classical and acoustic guitars in the house). There is a metal grate set in the wall by the seat which our French neighbour tells us was used to clean the fish caught in the river when he was a boy.
